In the Copa Libertadores, the leader and vice-leader of each group advance to the round of 16, while the third-placed team enters the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana.

Those classified in the Libertadores, then, will participate in a draw so that the round-trip clashes — format that remains until the semifinal — are defined, following the following criteria:

“In order to determine the rivals of each key, two tables of positions will be formed: one among the eight classified in first place in their groups (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 1F, 1G, 1H), which will occupy Pot 1, and second among the eight ranked second in their groups (positions 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G, 2H), who will occupy Pot 2.

Their position in each leaderboard will be ranked from 1 to 8 for the group winners and from 9 to 16 for the second, according to their performance in the GROUP STAGE.

The teams with the best performance (lower numbers in the order from 1 to 16) will have field command in their matches. From Pot 2 (teams in second place in the groups) the 8 balls that will form the keys A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H will be drawn. pot 1 (teams in first place in the groups) the balls with the teams that will complete the brackets, thus defining the confrontations for the Round of 16.

The home teams in the first match will be the teams coming from Pot 2 (teams in second place in the GROUP STAGE). In the big decision, the cup is decided in a single game, in a stadium defined before the start of the tournament by CONMEBOL.

This season, the final will be played in Guayaquil, Ecuador, at the Estadio Monumental.”

In the event of equality of points for any position during the group stage, the following tie-breaking criteria will be used, in the following order: 1st criterion: Greater goal difference.

The goal difference is obtained by subtracting the goals scored from the goals received. 2nd criterion: If the goal difference is equal, the club that has scored the most goals will be classified. 3rd criterion: If equality persists, the position will be defined in favor of the club with the highest number of goals in favor acting as a visitor. 4th criterion: Position in the CONMEBOL Club Ranking on December 16, 2021 In case of equality of points for any position during the final phase, except the decision, the following tie-breaking criteria will be used, in the following order: 1st criterion: in favor of the club
