A flurry of reports from sources in England and Germany last week have considered Manchester City the favorite to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund when the 21-year-old’s £63 million release clause is activated this summer.

While Barcelona and Real Madrid have been credited with interest in the Norwegian international, it was recently reported that Manchester City has a £100 million deal to sign the striker ahead of the 2022/23 season.

While the Premier League champions are cautious about their chances of completing the signing of the young striker, reports in Germany last week suggested that the 21-year-old is set to complete a sensational move to the Etihad Stadium in the near future.

According to Spanish journalist Quim Domènech Puigbó, whose information was translated and rebroadcast by Sport Witness, Manchester City is “very optimistic” of securing the signature of Erling Haaland this summer.

The Blues have the finances to seal a mega-deal for the young striker and there is a growing belief at the Etihad Stadium that City will make the biggest capture of the summer transfer window.

It was recently reported that Haaland’s team is conducting “extensive due diligence” on the striker’s next step ahead of what is undoubtedly a major looming decision for the Borussia Dortmund star’s career.

The striker – though still not having made a firm decision about his future – wants to further progress in his career, rather than opt for the best financial offer on the table, although any deal for the striker will certainly cost an absolute fortune to the club that manage to secure his signature.

City has prepared a contract structure that will see Haaland join the Premier League’s top earners after previous reports suggested that he could even surpass names like Kevin De Bruyne and Cristiano Ronaldo in wages if he chooses a move to the Etihad Stadium.

The Leeds-born striker’s team is said to have commissioned data analytics to explore what would be the best route for Haaland in the immediate future, with the former Red Bull Salzburg player believing that his next step will play a key role in his ambitions to be the best player in the world.

Amidst interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona among a host of other major European clubs, Manchester City has provided Haaland with a clear path – which could see him seek a move to Spain at some point in the coming years, should he go to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Several Real Madrid board figures believe that Manchester City is closing in on signing the Borussia Dortmund striker and has made the best financial offer to secure the Norwegian’s signature ahead of the next summer transfer window.

Sources close to Madrid disclosed last week that Real Madrid “has not made any moves” to advance its approach to Haaland – with a potential operation for the young striker considered “highly complex”.

It was disclosed last week that Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona have made offers to Erling Haaland and are awaiting the striker’s decision in the coming weeks.

However, Borussia Dortmund head coach Sebastian Kehl has recently dismissed these claims, stating that there is no set date or time for Haaland to make a decision about his future, despite the reports in recent weeks.
